Arguing with progressives...
It must be done regardless of the apparent futility of doing so.
Satire or humor is lost on a Progressive person. Right wing demands on the left wing don't work either...IMO these things will not be persuasive to someone who believes in left wing ideology.
Example 1) Demand :
“Utopian ideology is like' John Lennon's "Imagine" and its "no possessions" lyric. It's silly, your stuff would be mine, right? So you should hand your stuff over to me...NOW or else.”
I think a more effective strategy when trying to convince people of right wing ideology would be to ”plant a seed of reasonableness." The seed may or may not grow. No amount of persuasion can make a closed mind think.
Example 2) Plant a seed :
Innocently ask a Che Guevara t-shirt wearer who Che was. Listen to his response as if you didn't know “...he was a freedom fighter for the people...” Nod your head and say 'Oh yeah, now I remember. He fought for Castro, right?' Then ask 'Didn't Castro end up killing Che Guevara?'
Few intelligent people like to be told what to do or to think - they will naturally reject ideas that run counter to their accepted ideology. Most will accept a counter view if they believe that it came from within themselves ie; if they thought of it on their own without outside influences.

But just as nurturing a seed, you can only provide the best of environments in order to contribute to enabling its growth.
